Plans for 3,600 apartments threaten these Moreton Bay wetlands
Act For Wetlands

The key theme for World Wetlands Day 2022 is #ActForWetlands.

World Wetlands Day is celebrated each year on 2 February.

This is the anniversary of when the Ramsar Convention was signed more than 50 years ago to promote wise and sustainable use of wetlands such as Moreton Bay.

Do you think that replacing seagrass beds and mudflats with 3,600 apartments is wise and sustainable? Most people don’t.

World Wetlands Day is a great opportunity to send a message, to politicians at all levels of government, saying that we must protect Moreton Bay and conserve it for future generations.

Tell a politician about Wetlands Day

So here is what you can do.

  1. Right click on an image in the gallery below, and select Copy Image
  2. Scroll down to the list of politician email addresses and click on one.
  3. Paste your copied image into the email.
  4. Include a subject heading such as World Wetlands Day
  5. Type a short email, sign it with your name, and press SEND.

You can do as many emails as you have time to Act For Wetlands.

In your emails you could say why you think it is important to conserve wetlands and what you think about plans to construct 3,600 apartments on tidal mudflats in Cleveland on Brisbane’s bayside – between the Grand View Hotel and the Toondah Harbour ferry terminal.

You could say if you think this proposed residential development project would be ‘wise use’ of wetlands or incredibly foolish environmental destruction.

You could also ask the politician getting your email if they will be doing anything on World Wetlands Day 2022 to improve conservation of wetlands.

Postcards for World Wetlands Day 2022

All photos in this gallery are of the area designated as the Toondah Harbour Priority Development Area by the Queensland State Government (at Redland City Council’s request).

These photos show what would be lost, forever, if a developer is allowed to turn Ramsar listed wetlands into a high density urban precinct.
