Evidence of anti-social behaviour at Cleveland Point

Worsening anti-social behaviour (hooning) at Cleveland Point requires local residents to take concerted and unified community action to achieve a solution says the Cleveland Point Precinct Residents (CPPR) Steering Group.

A CPPR newsletter is re-published below (with permission of the the CPPR Steering Group) to promote wider discussion of an issue which concerns residents in many parts of Redland City.

Cleveland Point Precinct Residents Newsletter

Dear Cleveland Point Precinct Residents

Are you fed up with the unsafe and Anti-Social behaviour occurring nightly in our neighbourhood?

This behaviour, in and around the Cleveland Point Precinct, has worsened over time and now needs concerted and unified community action to achieve a solution.

Historical approaches to the Redland City Division 2 Councilor, the Redland Council and State members over several years have been futile.

The Cleveland Police have attempted to address the problem and are obviously resource constrained. With the problem occurring throughout the Redlands we cannot expect our Police to be on duty in our neighbourhood at all times of the day and night.

A record of buck passing

Lip service and duck shoving to the Police by our Councillor and Politicians will not stop the nuisance. Residents have the right to safely enjoy their properties peacefully without substantial and unreasonable nuisance and interference.

The nuisance consists of speeding, street racing, drag racing, donuts, burn outs, drifting, fishtailing, excessive noise and smoke on local public roads and at the VMR boat trailer parking area both day and night. There is also vandalism and destruction of Council assets and infrastructure (such as signs, bollards, trees park furniture etc) which costs us all, as ratepayers, a lot of money.

Like minded “rev heads” are assembling at the VMR boat trailer parking areas which results in noisy parties, loud music, obscene language, obscene graffiti, drinking alcohol, purposely shining headlights on homes late at night whilst setting off fireworks, altercations, urinating, drug dealing and littering.

Things might get a lot worse yet

The nuisance could intensify if the Division 2 Councillor continues his support of the William Street boat trailer parking expansion involving green space resumption (Attached) and the potential establishment of a Caravan Park in William Street. A second entrance/exit will also encourage the expanded facility to continue to be used as a racetrack by anti-social motorists from outside Division 2 and even from outside the Redlands. These motorists could incorporate Shore Street North in the new racetrack.
