Redland City’s high rates, roadside protests about Toondah and the loss of iconic palm trees along Finucane Road (near Delancey Street) are discussed in letters to Redlands2030.

Still, time to rethink Toondah

You can always put a positive slant on anything, advertisers know that all too well.

Yesterday I had a conversation with someone on Stradbroke Island who said Toondah Harbour development sounds good – boardwalks, coffee shops etc and I guess boardwalks do sound inviting. However,  the reality is that the (Toondah) “Development” is an excuse to put 3,600 units on a protected reserve where shorebirds rest, a beautiful wildlife habitat supposedly protected by Ramsar. All so a greedy developer can make money.

When we think about the boardwalk are we thinking also about congestion, maybe 30,000 extra cars on the road, the infrastructure needed to support this, and also the fact that Cleveland has a glut of unsold units. The impact will be terrible.

There is time before they build to rethink Toondah and what will happen. It horrifies me: to say the least

No Rates Rise Please

I live on Finucane Road between the Alex and the Red Shop.

First the developers came in cut down so many trees the birds are struggling. But since all the units have gone in our water pressure has halved. The rates. as I get older, are a struggle, they are the same price as if we lived on the Gold Coast. Yet Alexandra Hills is no Palace!

The council could work on doing our suburb up. For example, we desperately need a laundromat.

Iconic Palm Trees Felled

Just a question, does anyone know why all those palm trees were cut down on the land up the top of the hill heading out of Cleveland (opposite the new doctor’s rooms, where the local paper used to be)?

Every time I drive past, I feel sad as those palms have been there as long as I think I’ve lived in Cleveland and now they are on the ground … left there to rot.

Road side airing of Toondah issue appreciated

I was impressed by the teams of volunteers Redlands2030 had out last week with signs on the side of roads calling out the disgraceful Toondah PDA. I hope your volunteers got the reception they so rightly deserve.

I must say I hadn’t paid full attention to the previous letterbox drops and news reports about the scale of the development. Slack on my part I know.

My only excuse is that I live in Thornlands and thought it wouldn’t matter to me. But I saw your signs and had a chance to think about it as I sat in the traffic. More cars, more congestion, crowded parking crowded parks and on top of that the urbanisation of Moreton Bay…its inconcieveable and wrong!
