Medium density development in Wharf Street , Cleveland
Redland City Council is seeking community feedback about proposed changes to rules for medium density development which are intended to improve the quality of medium density development in Redland City.
The consultation process commenced on 3 August 2021 and closes on Thursday 16 September.
If you think that it would be a good idea for medium density development in Redland City to be better regulated with improved set-backs reduced site coverage and more communal open space then make a submission supporting the proposed City Plan amendments.
Lots of short submissions from residents concerned about the need for better quality medium density development may help encourage councillors to adopt these planning scheme changes.
The need for better regulation of medium density development
Information about the proposed changes to medium density development regulation in the City Plan can be found on Redland City Council’s Have Your Say website.
The Medium Density Residential zone code review was discussed in a Redland City Bulletin story which included comments from both Cr Wendy Boglary and Mayor Karen Williams.
The proposed improvements to regulation of medium density development have been reviewed by planning consultants Urbis and CDM Smith.
Redlands2030 has from time to time drawn attention to particular medium density projects which have been allowed under the current developer friendly Redland City Plan adopted in October 2018:
- Wellington Point apartments to be considered at special Council meeting on Tuesday
- Alexandra Hills next for medium density units
- From trees to units – 236-246 Queen Street, Cleveland
- Developer’s win win from new City Plan
- Cleveland Train Station: 124 apartments and coffee shop given final Council approval
If you don’t have any specific points to make it would still help to say something as simple as:
I support the proposed Major Amendment Package (04/20) – Medium density residential zone code and consequential amendments, and draft new planning scheme policy – Planning Scheme Policy 7 – Multiple Dwelling Design Guide.
