Letters this week discuss community rallies opposing the Toondah PDA development. Public scorn was directed at the mega residential development to be located offshore, in Moreton Bay, near Cleveland.
The biggest event was organised by Birdlife Australia attracted 500 people, the Save Straddie Rally brought together 300 and 50 attended the Wild Koala Day event. As a result of these actions people took pen to paper, putting their views on the rallies and the Toondah proposal.

Toondah breaches existing laws
With an election coming up I wonder just how many people voting, are aware of the proposed Toondah Harbour development at Cleveland. This may well affect the way they vote next Saturday.
The proposal is for 3,600 units to be built on the wetland area and mud flats at Cleveland. This will impact on the the wetland area, which is internationally protected by the international environment agreement Ramsar. The proposal is for residential units in 10 storey blocks, housing 10,000 new residents. It appears the Federal government has now allowed the developer, The Walker Group to proceed with an environmental impact statement despite thousands of objections.
This contravenes our own government environmental and international policies.
Is it necessary to reclaim and dredge 40 hectares of Moreton Bay? This will also destroy a unique koala habitat and a loss of water habitat for shore birds ,fish and other mammals.
Whoever the next government is after next Saturday, that government must be able to demonstrate a commitment to a sustainable future, and an appropriate outcome that benefits the whole community not just the developer

For evil to prosper good must turn a blind eye
Has any noticed any comment or commitment by any of the candidates offering funding for habitat conservation or wildlife protection?
It’s not enough to just support an idea in principal, someone has to make it happen!
We the people are doing our bit, but for evil to prosper….

Line in the Mud was the best yet!
I was walking my dog on G.J. Walter Park on Saturday and ran to the ‘Line in the Mud” made up of hundreds of people standing along the foreshore of Moreton Bay.
We have seen a number of protests about the Toondah development but Saturday was a completely different scale. I have seen estimates of the crowd at 500 people… I thought more but I have no expertise in such matters. What was obvious was the level of passion among the people and the diversity of the people and the home of those attending.
There were people from all over Brisbane! These people had obviously got up early and travelled a long way to voice their concerns about the way “their” Ramsar area and “their” marine park were being sacrificed on the altar of a major developer.
Seriously, how did we get to a position where the answer to a question is a major residential development on reclaimed land, in a Marine Park, in a Ramsar Area, in the waters of Moreton Bay?
Our politicians should step back and ask themselves (again) “if Toondah is the answer what is the question?”
BTW the action on Saturday was well organised my tribute to all. A job well done by Redlands2030 and Birdlife Australia

Just a clarification regarding any discussion during the election campaign about Toondah. Emerald Moon the Greens. candidate has been the only one well informed and questioning the Toondah development. She questioned Laming about the $245,000 donation given to Federal LNP and did not get an answer
