SEQ needs an Olympic Games like a hole in the head

SEQ Council of Mayors published an Olympic bid study report
South East Queensland Olympic bid study report published by SEQ Council of Mayors

We need the SEQ Mayors angling for an Olympic Games, like we need a hole in the head.

The legacy given to Sydney was a mess of congestion, insane property value increases, and a city where ordinary locals were forced to move out. The promised transport infrastructure never appeared, never kept pace.

Last year SEQ mayors were bizarrely entertained by Bernard Salt, in an effort to merge all SEQ councils into the one city council, namely Pacifica. Imagine how that would work, with the unique characteristics of each council area, melted into one. Great for developers, easier ability to manipulate just one entity.

Let’s face it, we are really talking about the Olympic Games of Real Estate Transactions, years of dislocation, further irreparable damage to a very fragile environment,  to the advantage of a few at the top.

We should really be focusing on a desperate  bid by a bunch of largely LNP vote hungry mayors attempting to resurrect their ratings, currently in free fall.

Thanks for the honest news

Flyover simulation of Walker Group's first proposal in 2015
Redlands2030 flyover simulation of Walker Group’s first Toondah proposal in 2015

Thanks Redlands2030  for continually bringing honest news coverage to the people of Redlands.

I have lived here for over 40 years, now, I understand development will occur. However the Toondah development goes against any local government planning laws.

Your  flyover simulation was very informative, perhaps this needs more coverage from you singularly so followers will feel the full effect of this proposed PDA.

I often go to G.J. Walter Park and enjoy the beautiful views and quietness of the park. Sadly the drawings you released certainly show how it will really look. Ugly.

I visited this park at certain times in my life, it was the place I visited as it brought me peace and solitude. Knowing this scale of development proposed is just not in fitting with the area.

Don’t become like the Gold Coast

The Gold Coast viewed from Q1 Photo

I am very concerned about the Mayor’s plans for Toondah Harbour. While it could use a little upgrading of the ferry facilities, it is a great place for wildlife.

The plans for multiple marinas, canals, removing the mudflats and building 3,600 apartments must be stopped.

It would completely destroy the current character of Cleveland, and Redlands and make us into another Gold Coast.  It would cause roads to be congested and increase crime rates. We would get inundated by wealthy people who occupy their apartments only part of the year.

The plans would destroy the mudflats, breeding grounds for waterbirds and home to fish and other creatures.  Displacing them would destroy the balance in the Bay and cause many of our native animals to die.

Once we start creating another millionaire’s paradise at Toondah Harbour, this will spread, into Victoria Point, Redland Bay, Wellington Point, and so on.

Redlands is an oasis in between Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast, let it remain so.
