Donisha Duff (Labor) and Henry Pike (LNP) speak at community gatherings
Redlands voters will soon have a say in electing a member for Bowman to serve in the House of Representatives and six senators to represent Queensland, at the 2022 Federal Elections on Saturday 21st May.
Election for the seat of Bowman
Six candidates have nominated for the seat of Bowman, shown below in ballot position order.
2022 Federal Elections candidates speak to the community
During the past few months, four of the candidates for Bowman spoke at community meetings hosted jointly by Redlands2030 and ACF Community Bayside.
Presented below are links to videos of the two major party candidates speaking at these meetings.
Donisha Duff (Labor) spoke at the community gathering on 19 April 2022. A video of her initial address and response to some questions can be seen at Donisha Duff on You Tube.
Henry Pike (LNP) spoke at the community gathering on 17 January 22. A video of his initial address and response to a question about plans for a white water facility on the Birkdale lands can be seen at Henry Pike on You Tube.
Other candidates to speak at Redlands2030/ACF Community community gatherings were Ian Mazlin (The Greens) and Mary-Jane Stevens (UAP). Both of these candidates recently expressed views of opposition to the proposed 3,600 apartment Toondah project in a recent 7NEWS story.
TNL candidate Phil Johnson will be speaking at the next Redlands2030/ACF Community Bayside community gathering on 17 May 2022.
Electing six senators for Queensland
Senators play a crucial role in reviewing and passing legislation as well as holding the Federal Government to account through committees with broad investigative power.
To get elected, a senator needs to get a quota of 14.3% of the total vote in Queensland.
It’s likely that the two major parties will each get enough votes to elect two of their candidates which means that the real contest is for the final two spots. Some of the candidates more likely to get a Senate seat include:
Penny Allman-Payne (The Greens)
Amanda Stoker (LNP)
Pauline Hanson (PHON)
Clive Palmer (UAP)
Campbell Newman (Liberal Democrats)
There are 89 candidates for the senate in Queensland and the ballot paper is about a metre wide.
Early Voting in the 2022 Federal Elections
Early voting is available for those who are eligible from Monday 9th of May.
Information about eligibility and options for early voting is available on the Australian Electoral Commission website.
