At the 2019 Federal elections in Queensland there are six Senate positions to be filled

Twenty four political parties and fourteen independent candidates are fighting for Queensland’s six vacant Senate positions at the 2019 Federal elections, on 18 May.

Senators are elected for six year terms which will commence on 1 July 2019.

It’s likely that the LNP and Labor will each get at least two Senators elected. The following candidates, in first and second place on their party’s tickets, are home and hosed:

  • Paul Scarr (LNP)
  • Nita Green (Labor)
  • Susan McDonald (LNP)
  • Chris Ketter (Labor)

The final two Queensland senate positions are anyone’s guess. Candidates in strong contention for getting elected include (in ballot order):

  • Malcolm Roberts (Pauline Hanson’s One Nation)
  • Clive Palmer (United Australia Party)
  • Gerrard Rennick (LNP)
  • Larissa Waters (The Greens)
  • Frank Gilbert (Labor)

There are in total 84 candidates to chose from. The Australian Electoral Office says you need to:

  • number at least six boxes above the line for the parties or groups of your choice, or
  • number at least 12 boxes below the line for individual candidates of your choice.

If you can’t vote at a polling booth in Australia on the day of the election (18 May) then other options for voting include applying for a postal vote or voting at an early voting centre.

Pre-poll voting starts on Monday 29 April. Early voting centres in the Redlands are at the following locations:

  • Shop 1 137 Bloomfield St, Cleveland (from 29 April)
  • 25/200 Old Cleveland Road, Capalaba (from 6 May)
  • Victoria Point Lakeside Shop H10 7-27 Bunker Rd , Victoria Point (from 6 May)

Why not provide a printable practice copy a person can fill out and take with him to vote?

This is a brilliant idea that should be accessible by download from AEC or similar. Once one gets to the ballot box, unless you take a list, it’s not so easy to remember who is who.

Thus federal election has major long term ramifications for future Australians , like non before. We see the declining standards in our educational institutions where experimental teaching on gender seems to be of greatest concern, we see corruption in high places a daily reporting, we see loyalty, decency, respect for law & order, family breakdown ALL these & more . How we vote is paramount to seeking to ” turn back the tide of decline”. Australian Conservatives offer a credible alternative.

Thanks R2030, its good to see a condensed appraisal of the Senate options. There seems to be an flavour for any and every taste.
