Redlands homeowners should have received their first rates notice for the 2026/27 financial year and most will have realised that rates and charges have increased well above the general inflation rate.
For a residential homeowner with a property value of $610,000 which is the median value for Redlands the overall increase in total at the bottom of your rates notice will be about 8.4%. this is more than twice the 4.1% annual increase in the ABS Consumer Price Index for Brisbane to May 2026.
While a typical rates notice total is increasing by 8.4%, the components controlled by Redland City Council are going up by about 10%.
This year the State Government has not increased bulk water charges so the components of the rates notice controlled by the State Government are only increasing by 1.0%.
For a typical Redlands mainland homeowner whose State Government property valuation is $610,000 (the median residential valuation for Redlands) the annual total in rates and charges including water and sewerage will be about $5,300 per year – more than $100 per week.

Redlands homeowners still pay highest rates and charges in southeast Queensland
A comparison of rates and charges in southeast Queensland shows that typical Redlands homeowners pay more than typical homeowners in any of eleven the other local government areas in southeast Queensland.
Our comparison includes all of the rates and charges that each local council has determined in its 2026/27 Budget to be imposed on homeowners. We calculate the general rates for a typical homeowner using the median residential values for each local government area. We also include other council charges including kerbside waste collection and all other extra charges that a local council decides to impose on all homeowners.
We include water retail and sewerage charges for homeowners in each local government area. Three local councils (Redlands, Logan and Gold Coast) retail water directly to homeowners. Water retail services in other local government areas are provided by either Urban Utilities or Unity Water which are owned and controlled by the local councils of the areas they serve. Toowoomba is a provider of both retail water services and bulk water. Bulk water for the other eleven local government areas is controlled by the State Government and charges are passed through by water retailers.
The state Government requires local councils to include an Emergency Management Levy in rates notices. For most homeowners in southeast Queensland the charge is $260 per year but residents in smaller towns pay a lower amount.
