A rally for the Ormiston Koalas will be held on Wednesday at Parliament House in Brisbane on Wednesday 13 May 2026 from 11:20am.
All koala supporters are welcome, to join with many other people who care about our present and future world.
Outside Parliament House we will have a grand old time saving this Ormiston koala colony. We will sing and dance.
We will tell the media, local MPs and Ministers why Ormiston College should not be allowed to chop down 652 koala habitat trees.
The Ormiston area has a very active koala population – 1,922 koala sightings have been reported in this area in the last six years.

Redland City Council has already refused the Ormiston College expansion proposal, now we urge the Queensland Government to do the same.
Many of the threatened trees are mapped by the Queensland Government as ‘Core Koala Habitat’, and much of the area is mapped as ‘High Ecological Value Wetland’, highlighting its ecological importance.
The clearing of these trees will also reduce connectivity between existing habitat patches, which is critical for koala movement, genetic diversity, and long-term survival.
Habitat fragmentation will increase the risk of koalas being hit by vehicles as they move across roads in search of food and shelter, as well as increasing their stress levels and making them more susceptibility to disease.
The proposal to remove 652 mature koala trees would result in the clearing of 31% of the koala habitat on the site, representing a significant loss that cannot be adequately offset through replanting.
It takes decades for the planting of gum tree saplings to become useful habitat in which our endangered koalas can rest, eat and breed. Koalas cannot wait for saplings to grow to maturity. And where would misplaced koalas be while these saplings are growing into habitat that is useful to a koala colony?
With 50 cent fares for public transport, it will only cost you $1.00 to attend the Rally for the Ormiston Koalas.
And you will be with good people having a good time.
