The Toondah Harbour Draft EIS and political theatre over a Redlands housing strategy are discussed in letters to Redlands2030.

Letter to Tanya Plibersek

Here’s a letter from a young resident to Federal Environment Minister Tanya Plibersek.

Housing Strategy theatre and spin

Housing in Redlands

Over the past 12 years or so sections of Council have supported development from Springacre Road through to Mt Cotton Road and from Boundary and Duncan Road to the Mt Cotton winery. The local residents in this area have hosted fundraisers for State and Council candidates and continued a push to have South Thornlands developed.

This community lodged submissions and some local residents continue to push for more development. But responses from Council’s Senior Planners are that there is enough land to accommodate the expected population and no need for this area to go to residential. The planners note that Shoreline has space for 10,000 people, Double Jump Road land, and the amount of infill planned in Redland Bay, Cleveland and elsewhere in Redlands is enough.

I believe the Housing Strategy arguments between Minister Miles and Mayor Williams are just theatre and spin.  It is the balance of Redlands that is behind in road upgrades, sporting facilities, and protection of our heritage.

Both the State and Council rave about the work they are doing to protect the future of our Koala yet both seem happy to see hectares of bush bulldozed.  I am over the spin.

So instead of covering Redlands in concrete and housing please plan for a livable and sustainable Redlands with more parks and open space.

Land and wildlife that was

A Redlands koala - becoming a rare sight.
When did you last see a koala in the wild?

Having watched 3 beautiful green open spaces  which are sustaining  various forms of wildlife destroyed by developments in the last few weeks in Brisbane, I have to ask ”Why do environmentalists have to fight to save the land, while developers just go ahead?

Surely developers must be required to go through massive hoops to build and if it’s an area valued for wildlife, then it should be a case of “hands off”. This is a no brainer.

This is true for the Toondah Harbour Ramsar protected wetlands, and the Tree Tops estate in Kenmore which will only add to the flood problems we already have as the water from 102 units water has to go somewhere and it will be into the Moggil Creek.

Greedy developers must be stopped. Otherwise, future generations will have to read in old books about the “land and wildlife that was”

What an appalling legacy developers,  politicians and lawyers who allow these decisions leave for our children’s children

The Toondah EIS: first thoughts

Section Toondah EIS (3.3.4) states “similarly, some external roads may be required to be upgraded to cater for the additional traffic. Performance analysis will be undertaken as part of the future PDA development assessment, which will determine the requirements”.

Are THEY joking?

Put in some 3,600 dwellings which would be some 6,000+ cars and probably an extra 20,000 trips in and out of Cleveland and they say “SOME External ROADS MAY BE required to be upgraded….”.  This is either written by a 10-year-old or (deliberately) a total silly snow job!

There should be a whole volume written about infrastructure.

And I can’t even find a parking spot at Woolworths some days now!
