Redlands August show holiday: Monday or Friday?

Should this year’s Redland City show holiday be on Monday 10 August or Friday 14 August? Redlands residents are being given an opportunity to have a say on this question by Redland City Council.

Redlands show holiday is normally held on the Monday before People’s Day at the Brisbane Exhibition (the Ekka).

This year’s Ekka has been cancelled because of COVID-19 so the Government has changed the People’s Day holiday from Wednesday 12 August to Friday 14 August to boost the local tourism industry by creating what Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk described as a People’s Long Weekend.

Council’s in south east Queensland are now being given the opportunity to change the date of their show holidays to align with the People’s Long Weekend.

This could benefit some families where some members have work or schooling in Brisbane City and others have work or schooling in Redlands.

Traditionally, Cleveland has had the Crazy Day markets on the day of the Brisbane show holiday, giving Brisbane folk an alternative to going to the Ekka.
