Thornlands residents face the prospect of more sleepless nights with indications that another season of the Holey Moley USA television show may be filmed in Redlands.

Would be contestants are told that they “must be available to participate in production of the Program for up to fourteen (14) filming days”.

No public statements about filming a new season of Holey Moley in Redlands have yet been made by Redland City Council or Eureka Productions.

Holey Moley film set under construction in Thornlands 2020

One Australian season of Holey Moley commissioned by Channel 7 was filmed at 240 South Street Thornlands in September 2020.

Redland City Council voted at a special meeting in July 2020 to lease part of this site to Eureka Productions for a period of two years with an optional one year extension.

The site, next to the Redlands Animal Shelter, is held in trust by Redland City Council for the Queensland Government.

When local councils hold state government land in trust they are supposed to engage with the community about any plans to change use of the land.

The deal with Holey Moley was kept secret by Redland City Council until a news breaking story was published by Redlands2030 on 8 September 2020.

Some details of the arrangements became clearer after a confidential report was obtained by Redlands2030 through right to information laws.

The Australian Holey Moley show was filmed over eight nights in October 2020 with loud noise disturbing nearby Thonlands residents until 4:00am.

“They say the eight nights of filming was a nightmare, with residents having to close windows in an effort to reduce impacts”, reported the Redland City Bulletin.

Some affected residents expressed their outrage in letters to the local newspaper published on 20 November 2020 and 27 November 2020.

A petition to the Council asking that this location not be used for any further filming has was signed by dozens of Thornlands residents.

The Australian series of Holey Moley was screened by Channel 7 in February 2021.

The ratings were less than expected and Channel 7 has so far not committed publicly to a production of a further season of Holey Moley for Australian contestants.
