The Walk for Toondah is a family friendly Mothers Day event showing that you care about our Koalas, our Bay and our Planet.
People doing the Walk will gather at Raby Bay Harbour Park which is close to the Cleveland Train Station.
After some music and short speeches we will walk in procession through the Cleveland CBD, past the Cleveland Markets then return to Raby Bay Bay Harbour Park.
Beako the giant Eastern curlew will again be at the walk for Toondah.
Some fledgling eastern curlews will accompany Beako this year.
The Walk for Toondah in 2022 was a raging success with more than 2,000 people participating.
Starting at Raby Bay Harbour Park, the Walk for Toondah will proceed very slowly through Cleveland Town to show we say “NO” to 3,600 units being built in the bay.
Before or after the Walk for Toondah you will have time to visit the popular Cleveland Markets in Bloomfield Street.
Community concern about the project is growing.
The Stradbroke Island ferries leave from this area that will be a construction worksite for up to 20 years if the proposed project goes ahead.
Locals are worried about the loss of irreplaceable habitat for animals like Eastern Curlews, dugongs and koalas, as well as the increased traffic and the impact on the community and local businesses.
Mudflats, used by critically endangered migratory shorebirds as feeding grounds, will be destroyed to make way for up to 3,600 apartments.
Increased traffic from up 7,000 apartment occupants will impact on the endangered koalas who are found regularly in trees around Toondah Harbour.
This proposed project shows complete disregard for our country’s international obligations under the Ramsar Convention to protect a globally significant wetland.
We can stop this project and protect Toondah Harbour. But we need to come together and show our support for safeguarding this beautiful and significant area.
Join with us to help secure the future of this amazing place we all love and enjoy.
