The local council election features a choice between two mayoral candidates, each with a team of candidates for divisional roles who they would prefer to work with.

The core issue is development: contentious residential projects like Shoreline, Toondah Harbour, Weinam Creek and many planned subdivisions. The mayoral candidates offer different approaches:

  • Karen Williams says “Lets Keep Redlands on Track”
  • Greg Underwood says “Let’s restore the balance”

Who is in which team?

Redlands2030 – 18 March 2016

Amy Glade, Mar 18, 2016

Div 9’s Paul Gleeson does not deserve a 2nd term since he did not involve local community in decision making. Why would he allow a metal fence that needed 2 rotted timber rails in centre replaced, to now have locals looking at a tall, timber residential fence you can’t see through or over into what’s left of green creek vegetation between Choice Liquor thru’ to Old Cleveland Rd? Neighbours now walk their dogs or run in more pleasant safer locations. Why…when Boystown (yourtown) no longer needed the caravan on Winter Memorial Park after some 6 mths of no activity on site, did he not return calls from elderly folk on the park after Boystown advised was no longer needed since they have a sizeable facility on Loraine Street? No activity was on park yesterday except for two adult males driving away as I arrived. Mayor Williams stole the park from locals and refuses to return it back to the people. Cr Gleeson squandered tens of thousands of ratepayer dollars on half dead spindly pine trees on what is said to be a park Cnr Redland Bay/Mt Cotton Rds Capalaba. We need a councillor who is willing to listen to needs of local residents then be their voice in council. This is what they are paid to do…but we have been let down and look forward to more favourable representation after the election .

Ludicrous comment. Paul Gleeson has done a great job. I’ve always found him accessible & responsive where road issues have needed reporting etc. We have a much more attractive entry to the city now with the works in Capalaba. Not to mention the new bandstand in Capalaba regional park and the Blues Festival & he brought the City Slider which I’m sure is something everyone else enjoyed but the whining pensioners will complain about forever more. Either way, it looks like he won’t be returned, mores the shame. Instead we have a Labor branch secretary running undeclared…
