Council is being requested to amend this site’s classification under Division 9 of the South East Queensland Koala Conservation State Planning Regulatory Provisions (Koala SPRP) from Medium Value Bushland to Low Value Rehabilitation. There is a general requirement that Redland City Council use competitive purchasing methods for items with a value greater than $15,000. However, Council officers are putting forward a request for approval to purchase items without having to source competitive quotes from 39 different vendors. The report to Council states that: “In the 2014/15 financial year, approximately $1,450,000 was spent on items provided by the sole suppliers for Redland Water.”

Well, there you have it! Shift the trees or shift the layout!
After Ormston koala trees next Ivory Lane, which way will the vote go?
But shouldn’t officers have pointed out a re-design when the application came in?

Regarding the development in Collingwood Rd Birkdale – these developers vandalised the koala habitat trees on this block and the Council officers recommend that Council approve this change?
How pathetic is this? It just makes a mockery of any koala protection laws.
These developers should have to redesign the unit layout so that the two (2) koala habitat trees that are left must be protected.

The MBCIA – Moreton Bay Combined Islands Association is preparing to address Council prior to the meeting on this issue.
It seems, that a secret deal has already been struck on the continuation of the Translink levy, where every ratepayer on the Southern Moreton Bay Islands has to pay an extra $88.00 a year, whereas mainland ratepayers enjoy the same Translink Service already for a number of years. Why is this handled in secret in a closed session? We SMBI resident are treated again as second class citizens.
